Hey everyone! Our next event is on the way, and it's one you won't want to miss. This event features Monumental, the Amsterdam-based company building autonomous construction robots that are already laying bricks. This time we'll have two speakers. Engineers from both the software and hardware side, sharing how they're actually building these robots. And to top it off, there'll be a live demo of a robot at work, which we think you'll find pretty fascinating to see up close. Thursday, September 17th 18:30 Monumental office, Amsterdam Meet the speakers! Speaker #1: Philip Joubert Bio: Chemist who got bored in the lab, so I started teaching high school and running a robotics club instead. Built robotic instruments with students, took a team to first place in two age groups at the WRO World Finals in Delhi in 2015. Been 3D printing since the days of wooden Ultimakers and duct-taped RepRaps. Moved to Amsterdam in 2017, prototyping for an ed-tech NGO, built mechatronics for light artists, and eventually landed at Monumental as employee #3. Still making things, just at a different scale. Talk: We don't build precision robots, we build robots that work. Robots that run in the mud, get hit with a wrench, and keep going. "Crappy robots powered by incredible software and AI". Phil will walk through the hardware philosophy behind Monumental's machines: why off-the-shelf truck parts, bits off a Fiat Panda, and scaffolding tubing beat custom aerospace components. Speaker #2: Ross Gardiner Bio: Ross has been at Monumental for four years working on all parts of the software stack. Right now his focus is on how we map the construction site and adapt the on-paper architectural designs to fit into the real world. Talk: I'll look at how we decided to build the software stack behind our bricklaying robots systems, where we make heavy use of Rust, Typescript and Nix. How is it panning out? What did it take to get a working robot? What would we like to improve in future? Stay tuned! Fol

🤖🏀 Get ready for Robo Con @ Amsterdam's biggest basketball arena! We're hosting a massive robotics event! 🤖🏀 🦾🦾🦾 We’ll have top robotics companies and student projects showing off their robots in Amsterdam's largest sports hall. We'll be transforming the city's biggest basketball arena (the stands can hold up to 4,000 people) into a robotics expo. So you can walk around the hall and the court, check out the robots, and network. We’ll also hold a panel session on the court with top robotics executives discussing the current state of robotics, AI, and computer vision. 🏅🏅🏅 We’re working on some silly challenges for the robots — we'll have some entertainment before the panel starts! We’ll announce the full robot lineup soon. For now, sign up to reserve your spot! It's free to attend! ❌❌❌ We're also partnering with the City of Amsterdam for this event, through Amsterdam Trade & Invest and StartupAmsterdam. The City of Amsterdam is committed to promoting deep tech and robotics. One example is the city's recent investment in the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences (HvA) robotics lab, which brings together students, researchers and startups. Learn more about this fresh initiative at Robo-Con! 🅰️ℹ️ 🌊 Robo-Con Amsterdam is organized by AI on the Amstel. The AI on the Amstel meetup is Amsterdam's largest monthly AI event. We get 250-400+ people/month depending on the size of the venue that month. We go to a new location each month. Founded in 2024, we have over 6,500 members and a 4.7/5 rating on Meetup. We just started using Luma. Now you can also sign up on Luma! 🤖🤖🤖 We held our first AI on the Amstel meetup on AI and robotics in February 2026, but the venue ultimately wasn't big enough for the topic! We hit the capacity of the space (pictures of the 400 people who attended), and we could only fit relatively small robot demos. So we're going MUCH bigger for v2 of the robotics meetup! 📣📣 Finally, a shout-out to our meetup sponsor — Qwen! Qwen is the leading AI mode
