About this event

During the session, you’ll make your own calcium-based biomaterial and use it to create a set of bio buttons. Through moulding, shaping and surface experimentation, you’ll explore texture and form while considering how biomaterials can be applied within garments, accessories and textile practice.
This workshop is ideal for fashion and textile designers, material researchers, makers and anyone curious about sustainable materials. No previous experience is required.
By the end of the session, you’ll leave with your own biodegradable bio buttons, the full material recipe and the knowledge to continue experimenting with the material.

Meet you instructor

Charlie Butterfield is a graphic designer and biodesign researcher exploring digital fabrication and biomaterials.
Her practice combines 3D modelling with material experimentation, including projects that use custom 3D-printed moulds to guide the growth of living root systems. Through her workshops, she introduces accessible approaches to digital design and biomaterial making.
