The Caretaker Model: Take over responsibility from idea to feedback
The Agile Software Development Manifesto calls for finding better ways to develop software.
We left Scrum behind because, among other things, we learned faster than the sprint was long, and the sprint blocked us more than it supported us. We needed a more adaptive approach that focuses on feedback.

We found a way of working that better supports us by separating the cycles for planning, improvement, retrospectives, delivery, and feedback. And the opportunity for every team member to contribute from start to finish has greatly increased team motivation. Finally, focusing on flow allowed us to reduce synchronisation points, such as meetings and handovers, and to gain significant efficiency. This is the Caretaker Model.

In this presentation, I explain how the Caretaker Model works, why it suits us much better, and why it might suit you and your team as well.

Systems thinking for the working week

ETH, Room CHN E46, Zurich, Switzerland · UX Schweiz – Last Thursday Talks
In person

Systems thinking for the working week Four altitudes, and how to move between them without a workshop Everyone agrees systems thinking matters. Almost nobody has a moment in the week where they actually do it. Complex products are rarely designed that way. They accumulate, one reasonable decision at a time, until no redesign can fix what the structure keeps producing. Anna Nerz uses a funnel she is responsible for at Mobility to show where those decisions actually get made, and why removing anything is the hardest change to get through a business. The session sets out four altitudes a problem can live at, and the practical side of moving between them in a normal working week. Altitude checks that fit inside rituals teams already run. Getting a structural problem into high-level planning. Seed planting, delegating, and what to do when the seed does not take. \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ Anna Nerz is Value Stream Lead for Discover & Onboarding at Mobility, Switzerland's largest carsharing cooperative. Previously Head of Experience Design there and Experience Design Director at EF Education First. \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ Practical information 29 October 2026 · 18:30, ETH Zürich · CHN E46 The talk will be followed by a Q&A and open discussion. The event will be held in English Talk: approx. 45 minutes Q&A and discussion: approx. 30 minutes The number of participants is limited Please arrive a few minutes early so we can start on time

Robot Learning Paper Club - The RL post-training edition.

Zürich, Switzerland, Zürich, Switzerland
In person

Robot learning in Zurich is scattered. Academia, big tech, and startups are all pushing the field forward, but rarely in the same room. If Zurich is going to lead in robotics globally, the people building it need to talk to each other. This is a space for exactly that. We mix 10-minute presentations from researchers in the local community presenting their own work and participants presenting recent papers they thought were interesting (5 minutes). Spots are limited. Contributing participants and people who have presented in the past have preferred access. ----- RL post-training edition: This edition focuses on RL methods for post-training VLAs and world models. Topics we think are interesting: RL on top of pretrained VLAs: RL tokens, residual policies, offline-to-online RL Reward models and value functions for real-robot tasks RL inside learned world models, or world models used as reward signals Sample efficiency and safety when running RL on real hardware Want to present a paper but not sure which one? Feel free to reach out to us at dominique@dream-machines.eu and we can help you find one!
