Slush Gradient Descending: Agentic Era of Infrastructure

NOV16
17:30 · Europe / Helsinki

About this event

'Gradient Descending' is a series of roundtables on AI: curated deep dives with technical builders. Past roundtables discussions covered RL Environments, Evals, Fine-Tuning, Agent Frameworks, Open Source Models, and Knowledge Graphs with companies like OpenAI, Anthropic, Cursor, Scale AI and many more.
For this special edition community side event during Slush Week, we're teaming up with Aiven, Modal and Avrea to discuss the next generation of cloud infrastructure.
Giving an AI agent a sandbox or a VM is one thing but building infrastructure that allows thousands of agents to run reliably, securely and economically in production is a very different challenge.
As agents move from writing code to deploying applications and managing infrastructure themselves, the requirements of the cloud are changing. Fast, disposable compute is only the beginning. What happens when agents need persistent state, access to sensitive systems, the ability to recover from failures and the freedom to operate without constant human supervision?
And perhaps more importantly, can today's cloud infrastructure support this shift, or do we need to rethink how it's built?
Joining us for the discussion:
Ville Lehto: VP Strategy, Aiven
Hannu Valtonen: Co-founder & CEO, Avrea
Eric Hansander: Modal (previously co-founder & CEO of Twirl)
Three people who have spent years building cloud infrastructure, developer platforms and the systems behind modern software.
Agenda:
Arrivals: 17:00-17:30
Roundtable discussion: 17:30–18:30
Drinks and canapés: 18:30–19:30

Founder Stories from Founders House

Founders House Helsinki, Helsinki, Finland
In person

Founder Stories from Founders House Aaltoes and Founders House Helsinki are teaming up for one evening with the founders working out of Sähkötalo. Instead of one long interview, we're putting two to three founders on stage back to back: how they started, what they got wrong, and what they'd tell a student who's thinking about building something now. Zechen Ma, Co-founder, Elva Elva uses AI to make cross-border hiring simple: work permits, registrations, housing and bank accounts in one workflow, for startups hiring international talent across Europe. The team raised a €1.3M pre-seed led by Lifeline Ventures, with Slack co-founder Cal Henderson and Wave Ventures on the cap table. Aaro Angerpuro, Co-founder, Viran Viran is the AI bid team for public-sector sales. It learns a company's references and capacity, screens 200,000+ public tenders a week across 90+ markets, and only brings the team the ones worth bidding on. Plus one more founder announced soon. 4th November - 18.00 Founders House Helsinki, Sähkötalo

Builders’ Breakfast with Niilo Pirttijärvi: From Slush to Building One of Finland’s Fastest-Growing Companies

Maria 01, Helsinki, Finland
In person

Join us for our next Builders' Breakfast with Niilo Pirttijärvi, Co-Founder and CEO of Inven, a Helsinki-based AI company changing how investors and M&A professionals find and analyse companies. Founded in 2022, Inven has grown from three co-founders to over 1,000 customers worldwide, raised €11.2 million in Series A funding and was recently ranked the third-fastest-growing startup in the Nordics by Sifted. But the journey hasn't been all smooth sailing. From selling an early product that was far from finished to facing dozens of investor rejections and making difficult decisions about the company's direction, Niilo and his co-founders have had to learn a lot along the way. Having previously worked at Slush, Niilo is now building a company with global ambitions, and he's joining us to share what that journey has really been like. During the fireside chat, we'll explore: How Niilo went from Slush to becoming a founder and building Inven Finding the first customers and selling before the product was ready Breaking into the US market and scaling international sales Raising €11.2 million and dealing with investor rejections Building and leading a fast-growing team while learning to be a CEO The biggest mistakes, lessons learned and what he'd do differently Come for breakfast, stay for the conversation and connect with fellow founders and builders! About Builders' Breakfast Builders' Breakfast is Maria 01's monthly event series bringing together founders, entrepreneurs and startup enthusiasts to learn from experienced founders and their journeys. Each session includes breakfast, networking, a fireside chat and an opportunity to ask questions.
