Children’s Media Creators Coworking

SURF Incubator, Seattle, United States · SURF Incubator
In person

# Children’s Media Creators Coworking Are you creating a children’s book, show, game, video, curriculum, animation, podcast, product, or other form of media for children and youth? Come work alongside other people building in the same world. Children’s Media Creators Coworking is a casual, focused coworking and accountability community for writers, illustrators, animators, educators, filmmakers, game designers, musicians, curriculum developers, founders, and other people creating media and edutainment for children. This gathering is primarily for adult creators making things for children. (It is not a children’s activity or class.) # What happens? We’ll begin with a brief check-in: What are you creating? What do you want to accomplish during this session? Are you looking for feedback or collaboration—or uninterrupted focus? Then, we work. Bring your laptop, manuscript, notebook, sketchbook, storyboard, curriculum, headphones, or whatever else you need to move your project forward. You are welcome to: Work independently Meet other children’s-media creators Exchange ideas and useful resources Ask for feedback Find potential collaborators Continue an existing project Finally begin the idea you keep postponing You do not need to have a finished product, established company, or formal creative title. You only need something you care about creating for children—and a willingness to give it focused time. Near the end, we’ll briefly regroup to share what we accomplished, identify our next steps, and ask for feedback, information, or collaborators when useful. This is primarily coworking—not a workshop, presentation, or high-pressure networking event. Come make progress while gradually getting to know the other people in Seattle who care about making better things for children. # What can I work on? Anything related to creating for children, including: 📚 Books and stories 🎬 Film, television, video, and animation 🎮 Games and interactive media 🎵 Music

Lunch & Learn: Inside Nuance Labs’ Push from Research to Market

AI House, Seattle, United States
In person

Fangchang Ma and Edward Zhang, co-founders of Nuance Labs, just announced a $50 million Series A round last month. Now they're joining us at AI House for a conversation about building a Seattle research lab and taking it to market. What we'll cover: Building Nuance Labs: the founding story, product development, and what the team is learning along the way. From research to GTM: how a research-first team is shifting toward go-to-market. The tech: a high-level look at how Nuance builds one model for real-time audiovisual conversation. Who should come: Seattle founders, builders and technical talent. Capacity is limited, and approval is based on your registration answers. We track no-shows, and it affects approval for future events. If you can't make it, please cancel your registration in Luma. Agenda: 1130am - 12pm: Networking and pizza 12pm-1245pm: Fireside chat + Q&A 1245pm-130pm: Networking About the speakers: Fangchang Ma (CEO) and Edward Zhang (CTO) worked side by side on applied research at Apple, building core technology and prototyping new experiences across iPhone, Vision Pro and Apple Intelligence. Fangchang holds a PhD in robotics from MIT. Edward holds a PhD in graphics and vision from the University of Washington. They started Nuance on a simple premise: the next leap in AI won't come from what models say, but from how they say it. About Nuance Labs: Nuance Labs is a Seattle-based research lab building a foundation model for audiovisual conversation: AI you can see and hear, that listens, reacts and responds in real time. Rather than putting a face on top of a text exchange, Nuance models the full dynamics of human interaction, including timing, backchannels, facial expression and gaze. In September the company raised a $50 million Series A round led by Lightspeed, with participation from Accel, South Park Commons, NVIDIA and Define Ventures.
