Join a Claude Community Event, organized by local enthusiasts for everyone who loves building with Claude! Talk first, build next Claude Conversations runs as a pair of events. The talk was on Thursday 17 September, when people who use Claude all day sat beside people who are mainly just uneasy about it and worked through three questions: what does AI mean for my job, what is AI doing to me, my kids and my community, and who decides the rules. This is the build. We're going back through everything that came up and pulling out the problems people actually named, the ones concrete enough to build against. Those become the briefs, and they'll be posted on this page ahead of the day. Each team picks one and spends the evening building something with Claude Code that takes a real swing at it. How the evening runs Doors open at 17:00. Come with a team of up to five, or come on your own and we'll put you with people when you arrive. Teams pick a brief and build until demos start at around 20:00, with pizza in the middle so nobody has to down tools for long. Every team then gets a few minutes to show what it built, running live, and the winners are announced before we finish at 21:00. Credits, prizes and judging Every participant gets $100 in Claude API credits, and the winning team takes the prizes, including a month of Claude Max 20x for each member. Builds are judged on how directly they take on the problem they picked, whether they actually work when shown live, and whether someone could realistically pick them up and use them after the night. Who it is for People who already code with Claude Code. Four hours goes quickly and there's no time to learn the tool on the night, so you should be comfortable building and shipping with it before you arrive. If you're new to Claude Code, this isn't the one to start with. Before you come Bring a laptop with Claude Code installed and working, and your charger. The API credits attach to an organisation in the Claude Console (consol
Hi All, We are excited to invite you to another informative Saturday morning. Agenda: 10:00 – 10:10 DSEclub introduction 10:10 – 10:50 From Open Storage to Open Meaning: How Apache Ossie (Incubating) Completes the Open Data Lakehouse by Will Martin 11:00 – 11:30 Data Streaming at Home by Georgi Samardzhiev 11:30 – 12:00 Projects & Networking Topic 1: The open data lakehouse has a solid data foundation thanks to Apache Iceberg and Apache Polaris: an open table format and catalog that any query engine can share without lock-in. But openness in storage doesn't mean openness in meaning. Business context, like “revenue” and “active customer”, tends to sit in downstream systems, like notebooks and BI tools. These definitions tend not to agree, and they don’t travel well between systems. That is, until Apache Ossie (Incubating) — the newly Apache-incubated open spec for semantic layers and ontologies, backed by Snowflake, Dremio, Databricks, dbt Labs, and Salesforce. This talk will explain the current open data lakehouse stack and introduce Apache Ossie (Incubating). We’ll discuss how open source projects provide vendor-neutral options without sacrificing performance, and why shared semantics is the next open standards fight in this age of agentic analytics. Will Martin is Dremio’s Data & AI Evangelist. Starting out with statistical analysis in particle physics, his professional journey has spanned multiple industries, including banking, shipping logistics, entertainment, healthcare, defence, and customer 360. With experience as a data engineer, solutions architect, and software developer, he has spent 15+ years collaborating with companies and organisations across EMEA and APAC, including roles at CERN, Deloitte, and Tamr. Topic 2: Apache Kafka and Apache Iceberg as a machine for learning — and the issues that did the teaching. A full account of a streaming Kappa platform in my homelab — Kafka, Iceberg, Bytewax, k3s, self-hosted S3 — built to learn on rather than to
