Data Science Cafe - Biotech focus Vol 1

DEC11
16:30 · Europe / Vienna

About this event

The Data Science Café began in 2017 as a simple community space: a place where mathematicians, software engineers, and business professionals could meet once a month, learn together, and exchange perspectives.

Over time, it became a vibrant community. In 2022, the format returned with mentors sharing their expertise—many of whom had first joined as participants in the original sessions. That journey captured something important: communities grow when people are generous with what they know and curious about what others can teach them.

Now, the Data Science Café returns with a Biotech Focus.
Vienna has an exceptional opportunity at the intersection of data science and biotech. The city brings together scientific talent, technical expertise, strong universities, innovative companies, and organisations working across the ecosystem. Yet some of the most valuable connections are still waiting to be made.

This event series is designed to create a welcoming space for those connections. Whether you work in biotech, data science, research, software, business—or are simply curious about the field—you are welcome. Different backgrounds are not a barrier; they are the point. New ideas often emerge when disciplines meet and people learn from one another.

The Data Science Café – Biotech Focus will take place every three months, bringing together mentors, professionals, researchers, students, and curious minds to explore what this intersection can make possible.

Thank you to 42 Vienna for hosting us, and to Women in AI for recommending outstanding mentors.

Seven mentors are already confirmed, with more conversations underway. The official mentor announcement will follow on 1 November.

Save the date, and join us as we learn, connect, create, and innovate together.

Epigenetics and your biological clock (incl. laboratory tour)

HealthBioCare GmbH, Vienna, Austria
In person

Your genes are not your destiny, and science can now show why. At this free evening in Vienna, Dr. Berit Hippe of HealthBioCare explains how your daily habits switch genes on and off and why your body can age faster or slower than your birthday suggests. Then we will get a special insider tour through a real epigenetics laboratory to see how it's measured. What is epigenetics about? For a long time, we thought our DNA was set in stone: the genes we're born with decide how our health turns out. Over the past two decades, science has shown a different picture. Our lifestyle and environment help switch genes on or off, and that is what epigenetics studies. What does the evening look like? 18:00 Doors open 18:30 Introduction to Longevity Cities 18:45 Talk by Dr Berit Hippe and Q&A 19:30 Walk through the laboratory Afterwards: open networking with healthy snacks and drinks until 21:00 🗣️ Talk and hosting in English 🎟️ Free entry, limited spots Who is it for? This evening is for anyone who has ever wondered how much of their health is in their own hands. You don't need a science background to follow along, and if you already know the field, you'll still leave with new questions to think about. About Dr. Berit Hippe Dr. Berit Hippe is Managing Director of HealthBioCare and a nutritional scientist who focuses on nutrigenomics (how the food you eat interacts with your genes) and the microbiota (the bacteria living in your gut), with preventive nutrition as the common thread. She also teaches at the University of Vienna. Good to know Entry is free, but spots are limited. Small healthy snacks and drinks are provided. Photos will be taken during the evening and may be shared afterwards. Partner **About HealthBioCare:** since 2011, HealthBioCare has turned genetic and epigenetic research into clear analyses for prevention, using a few drops of blood to give personal recommendations for everyday health and healthy ageing. healthbiocare.com **About the host:** Longevity Vi
