An Evening With Jenny Lee: 21 Unicorns, 18 IPOs, Two Decades of Backing Asia's Best

OCT15
17:00 · Asia / Singapore

About this event

21 unicorns. 18 IPOs across five global exchanges. A fixture on the Forbes Midas List since 2012, and the first woman ever to break into its top 10.
Meet Jenny Lee, Senior Managing Partner at Granite Asia and one of Asia's most accomplished technology investors. Granite Asia is a multi-stage firm that backs founders from their earliest days through growth, so whatever stage your company is at, this is a rare chance to hear directly from an investor who has been alongside founders at every step.
Part of the firm's senior leadership since 2005, Jenny has spent two decades backing technology and innovation across Asia and around the world. Born and raised in Singapore, she also sits on the board of Temasek and holds degrees in Electrical Engineering from Cornell University and an MBA from Kellogg School of Management.
Jenny will share hard-won insights from more than twenty years of investing in and working alongside entrepreneurs, including:
What she looks for in exceptional founders
Lessons from backing and scaling category-defining companies
How founders should approach fundraising and investor relationships
Building and scaling companies across Asia and globally
How technology and venture capital in Asia are evolving
Event Agenda:
5:00 PM: Doors open & sign-up
5:30 PM: Fireside chat begins
6:30 PM: Fireside chat concludes, followed by networking over drinks and canapés
7:30 PM: Event ends
The conversation will be moderated by Arnaud Bonzom (CGM'22), founder of Black Mangroves and Entrepreneur-in-Residence at INSEAD.
This is the fourth edition of "An Evening With," a series by Black Mangroves that brings accomplished leaders together with the entrepreneurial community for candid conversations. Previous guests include Geoff Ralston, then-President of Y Combinator; technology analyst Benedict Evans; and Nicolas Dessaigne, General Partner at Y Combinator and co-founder of Algolia.

Common Ground Makeathon: Design x Tech x Culture

Singapore
In person

COMMON GROUND — One Day Creative Tech Makeathon Build at the intersection of design × technology x culture on 11th October at SQ Collective Singapore (in person) — experiment with new ways of making, interacting, expressing, and experiencing. Choose from two tracks:Design × Tech Culture × Tech No fixed medium or outcome — build a website, visual experiment, AI experience, speculative prototype, or something we don't have a name for yet. Solo or squad — register individually and create or join teams up to 3. Build with CodexAll participants will receive Codex credits A short onboarding will help you get started with Codex and other partner tools. USD $5,000 Codex credits prize pool — projects from both tracks will be presented and judged at the end of the event. All backgrounds welcome — you don't need to be a designer, artist or engineer. Just bring fun and curious vibes!! What's common ground? “I’m not technical.” Okay. And? Somewhere along the way, we decided that technology belonged to the people who knew how to code it. Before code was code, it was holes punched into cards telling a loom which threads to lift. Ada Lovelace noted that the Analytical Engine “weaves algebraic patterns just as the Jacquard-loom weaves flowers and leaves.” Two centuries later, NASA looked to origami to figure out how to fold enormous structures into spacecraft. A surprising amount of the world exists because somebody followed a thought beyond where their expertise was supposed to end. Common Ground is a one-day makeathon exploring what happens when creative people from different disciplines are given the same tools and space to experiment. Designers, researchers, architects, filmmakers, historians, students, technologists, musicians, educators, enthusiastic amateurs, and people who clicked “register” before figuring out which one they are. If you have a way of seeing the world that someone else in the room might not have, you're useful here. What are you signing up for? We’re

DeepHumanity.ai Storylabs Session & Networking

*SCAPE, Singapore
In person

DeepHumanity.ai is a global multi-modal documentary created by filmmaker and AI for Humanity co-author Siok Siok Tan. At a moment when artificial intelligence is advancing at extraordinary speed, the project turns the familiar question of the Turing Test around. Instead of asking whether machines can think like us, it asks: What makes us irreducibly human? Through stories gathered from people around the world, DeepHumanity.ai is creating a living record of humanity during this profound transition—capturing our hopes, fears and defining experiences, together with those essential human qualities that resist algorithmic capture and automation. In partnership with the ClaudeSG Community, we invite you to an early beta screening at *SCAPE. You will experience the documentary while it is still taking shape, before it begins its journey into the wider world. Your reflections and stories will become part of the conversation informing its continued development. This will be more than a film screening. Through an interactive audience experience and panel conversation, we will explore the human dimensions of the AI transition—and reflect together on what it means to remain deeply human in the age of AI. Doors open at 6.00pm. The programme begins at 6.45pm. Programme 6.00–6.30pm — Registration 6.45pm — Welcome and introduction 6.50pm — DeepHumanity.ai Storylabs session 7.20pm — Interactive audience reflection: human dimensions in the AI age 7.30pm — Panel conversation: finding humanity in the age of AI 8.00pm — Invitation to contribute your story to DeepHumanity.ai 8.10pm —Networking
