IEEE - San Diego Section Meetup

San Diego IEEE Consultants' Network August 2026 Meeting ("Away Game") => INCOSE Chapter Summer Social & Membership Drive <= This month we will join our sister org. the International Council on Systems Engineering (INCOSE) for their Free Chapter Summer Social & Membership Drive. This event will feature free pizza, wings, salads, and soft drinks (alcoholic beverages will be the responsibility of the guests). The San Diego chapter has just been awarded the INCOSE Platinum Circle Award for the 8th straight year! Come help them celebrate this incredible achievement!!! INCOSE is a not-for-profit membership organization founded to develop and disseminate the interdisciplinary principles and practices that enable the realization of successful systems. Being a systems engineering organization, their members tend to be part of larger corporations, which would make for synergies with specialized consultants. Moreover, the local chapter has been interested in collaborating with IEEE to help raise awareness of both organizations. Many systems engineers come from project engineering backgrounds in electrical, mechanical, or aerospace fields (and of course, computer science). Should be a great networking event of peers! San Diego Software Development Deep Dive

• What we'll do Come join in discussions about Vim, Emacs, Linux, Elixir, Erlang, OTP, Lisp, Haskell, Ruby, Javascript, Functional Programming, Object Oriented Programming, Blockchain, HashGraph, Distributed Systems, Decentralized Systems, and whatever peaks your interest. • What to bring A laptop, good questions, exciting ideas, an open mind and a positive attitude. • Where to meet Meet by the corn hole game in the back and look for others with laptops. Ask for others that are there for the software discussion group. • Alternate location Some nights the Rabbit Hole has live music. I was not able to pin down an exact schedule, just sometimes we would show up and there would be a band but most times there was not. As an alternate location on live music nights the discussion group could be moved just down the street to Lestats coffee shop. They have great coffee and a nice atmosphere for hanging out and discussing software. • Important to know This is a self organizing open discussion group that is meant to be organic, with no main speaker or leader. It is just a time and a place for like minded people to come together to talk about software. • Background When I was staying in SD (Jan-Aug 2018) I was teaching software development at UCSD and the Meetup gave my cohort a space to dive further into topics that the curriculum did not allow time for. When the class was over and I went back to traveling full time, I thought it would be an interesting experiment to leave the Meetup going and see if people would still gather to discuss software without someone to lead it. I liked the idea of a group that did not require some one to always lead it. A lot off Meetups I have been to before were always one or two people doing a lot of work to organize and put on talks but everyone else just shows up to consume and doesn't really participate that much. Kinda like going to a movie, in a way. The idea for this group is that it is what people make it. You get out of it what you
