Bad Idea Pitch Competition - Climate Week Edition

American Underground, Durham, United States
In person

The world has problems. We have bad ideas. An evening of amazing pitches for absolutely terrible ideas to save the world. Climate change is a massive, complicated problem that will require serious innovation, collaboration, policy, investment, and action. This is not that. For RDSCo Climate Week, we’re bringing back the Bad Idea Pitch Competition and challenging teams to tackle real problems facing our planet in the most questionable ways possible. Each team will pitch live to a panel of Celebrity Judges, who will ask questions, poke holes, and ultimately cast their votes. The audience gets a vote, too, to help crown the Best Worst Idea to Save the World. Expect big swings, bad science, unnecessary apps, suspicious sustainability claims, and at least one solution that probably involves putting solar panels somewhere they absolutely do not belong. Come for the creativity, stay for the community (and a laugh!), and join us for a night of bad pitches, climate bingo, and plenty of chances to dream up a few terrible ideas of your own. The world has enough good ideas. For one night, we want your worst. Interested in forming a pitch team and being a part of the show? Please fill out our very serious application to pitch here: https://airtable.com/appwJTZLBy955Kvik/pagy2KLsI5VQeISdR/form Celebrity Judge Panel Megan M. Anderson is an Executive on the City of Raleigh leadership team. As the Sustainability Officer, she leads the community and organization in transformative climate change, resilience, social impact and sustainability initiatives. Community service has been the driving force behind her personal and professional life, from: helping start a North Carolina-wide program for youth aging out of foster care; to teaching environmental science; to working with low-income communities in Africa and Asia, non-profits, education and government; to creating one of the first community-wide community and resilience focused Climate Action Plans in the U.S. – Megan has made it

An Evening with Brad Nathan, Founder of Lynx Equity

American Underground, Durham, United States
In person

Thursday, November 19 4:00 PM | Info Session at American Underground, Conference Room 100 (324 Blackwell St, Suite 900, Durham) 5:00 PM | Happy Hour at Seraphine (324 Blackwell St, Suit 402, Durham) If you’ve sold a company before, you know that who you sell to matters. Brad Nathan has built his business by ensuring that sellers’ legacies are preserved and that their employees are looked after. In 2007, Brad founded Lynx Equity Limited, a firm which retiring founders could trust with what they’d built. Lynx doesn’t buy companies just to flip them a few years later, it focuses on helping each business grow over the long haul. Nearly 20 years later, that approach has grown into 54 portfolio companies and more than 2,700 employees across five countries. Brad will discuss what he’s learned by sitting across the table from so many founders: what makes a handoff go well, why he believes in owning businesses for the long run, and how investors can earn steady monthly income with Lynx. Following the Info Session, we will head over to Seraphine for cocktails and conversation with fellow founders and investors. We’d love to see you there!
