The Augmented Mind: What AI is doing to how we think, work, and find meaning

SEP30
17:30 · Europe / Rome

About this event

AI tools are changing how we work.
As AI takes over more of the visible work, what happens to human judgment, to the skills we're proud of, and to the meaning we find in our jobs and who decides whether that shift goes well?
This event explores the emerging evidence on human-AI collaboration, upskilling and reskilling, the triad of skills failure (deskilling, never-skilling, and mis-skilling) and what it might take to design tools and habits that preserve and develop the capabilities we rely on.
Questions anchoring the discussion:
How AI reshapes human thinking
Where do these tools sharpen our reasoning, and where do they quietly do the thinking for us?
What happens to attention, judgment and memory when we offload cognitive work?
Skills, identity and meaning
If the visible parts of a job get automated, what's left that feels like "ours"?
Where does AI free people up for more meaningful work, and where does it hollow the work out?
Does prior expertise protect against overreliance, and when does it fail to?
Deskilling, never skilling and mis-skilling: what they are and when do they occur?
Agency and who decides
Italy is enthusiastic but barely using AI at work, what's actually holding people back, and who gets to shape how it enters their lives?

Milano | Claude Conversation

Milano, Italy, Milano, Italy

Claude Conversations Milan: how can AI make public services reachable for everyone? The Comune di Milano runs hundreds of services: residency certificates, school enrolment, housing and welfare support, permits, social services, mobility. On paper they are open to everyone. In practice, reaching them is much harder if you do not read bureaucratic Italian, if you use a screen reader, if you are eighty years old, if you arrived in the city last year, or if you simply cannot work out which of the forty pages on the website applies to your situation. The Questions on the Table AI is already being sold as the answer to this. Before building anything, the harder questions are worth an evening. Where do people actually get stuck? Which step, which document, which word? Which barriers are about language and comprehension, and which are structural ones that no chatbot will fix? What can AI realistically do here, and what has to stay human? What happens when the system gets it wrong and the citizen has no alternative provider to switch to? What makes a solution adoptable by a public administration, and not just demoable at a meetup? What This Is Claude Conversations is a small, focused gathering for builders, designers, public sector people and anyone who cares about whether citizens can reach the services they are entitled to. This is not a talk and not a product demo. We spend the evening on one question, sharing perspectives, disagreeing where it is useful, and leaving with one real and specific problem worth solving. That problem becomes the brief for a Claude Impact Lab, a hands-on build session where the community works on a solution together. What to Expect A focused conversation. A guided discussion on access, accessibility and what AI actually changes for public services. Both sides of the counter. Space for people who deliver services and people who struggle to use them, including the parts that are uncomfortable to say out loud. From conversation to action. We pick
