Prior to Vention, Brendan was Chief Product Officer at Xometry and its subsidiary ThomasNet, which leveraged AI and digital technologies to radically simplify the process for quoting and buying custom manufactured parts, and finding industrial suppliers. Before working in the manufacturing sector, Brendan spent nearly a decade at Indeed.com, the world's #1 job site, with more than 250 million unique visitors per month. Audrey Muchembled is Product Manager for software and firmware programming solutions at Vention, working on the industrial controller at the heart of every Vention automated machine. With a master's in electrical engineering, she started her career in firmware development, then moved into software development and team leadership. Two years ago she made the move to Product, continuing to build what she is passionate about from a different angle. She has been at Vention for seven years, helping scale the company from 40 people to past 350. Over ten years as CTO at ScalePad, he helped grow the company from its early days to more than 300 people, establishing the product, platform, and engineering foundations behind its growth. A longtime open-source enthusiast, he is now returning to building from the ground up with Squid-OS, an open-source, local-first AI harness and agent runtime, while exploring how local AI is reshaping the way we interact with computers and build software. \#\#\# Talk A Journey to Local AI Abstract Running a capable AI model locally used to mean major compromises. That is changing quickly. In this talk, Jean-François René shares his hands-on journey into local AI: experimenting with open-weight models, pushing consumer hardware to its limits, navigating quantization, context windows, inference engines and tool calling—and discovering that the most interesting question isn't whether a local model can compete with the cloud. It's what becomes possible when the AI actually lives on your computer. The journey eventually led to Squid-OS, an open-source experiment in treating AI as an interface to the operating system itself. What started as an exercise in optimizing models shifted toward questioning the software we build around them: how low latency changes the interaction loop, whether we really need to consume so many tokens or hardcode so many capabilities into our harnesses, how small, smart and univers

Une table ronde organisée par ONU-Habitat Canada à l’occasion du prochain rapport spécial du GIEC sur le changement climatique et les villes. Le Rapport spécial du GIEC sur le changement climatique et les villes sera publié au printemps 2027. Il présentera une évaluation actualisée des connaissances scientifiques les plus récentes sur les changements climatiques et les principaux défis et opportunités associés à cette réalité, tout en formulant des recommandations concernant les solutions à privilégier et les moyens à mettre en œuvre. Le rapport examinera également les conditions nécessaires pour faciliter et accélérer les transformations requises. Les zones urbaines sont au cœur de l’action climatique. Les effets du changement climatique touchent de manière croissante les populations urbaines, tandis que les villes sont de plus en plus exposées aux risques climatiques. Parallèlement, elles constituent la principale source des émissions mondiales de CO2. Cependant, lorsqu’elle est planifiée et gérée de manière durable et équitable, l’urbanisation peut contribuer à réduire ces émissions tout en créant des opportunités économiques pour les populations urbaines. À travers le monde, les villes et leurs habitants innovent et mettent en œuvre des solutions concrètes visant à atténuer les effets du changement climatique et à s’y adapter. Permettre aux responsables publics aux échelles locale, régionale et nationale, ainsi qu’aux acteurs de la société civile et du secteur privé, de prendre des décisions éclairées fondées sur des données probantes constitue une condition essentielle à l’efficacité de l’action climatique au niveau local.
