Abstract
There are numerous architecture frameworks that are pertinent to architects and engineers. But just what is an "architecture framework"? This session will provide an introduction to the concept of an architecture framework based on ISO/IEC/IEEE 42010-2022 "Software, Systems and Enterprise — Architecture Description".
The session starts with reviewing different perspectives on what is "architecture" in the first place? The session will continue with an overview of the conceptual elements of an architecture framework and how those relate to the concepts of an architecture description (e.g., stakeholders, concerns, and viewpoints). The session will also discuss the uses and common applications of architecture frameworks and their relationship to architecture development and architecture governance.
Attendees will gain exposure to several popular and commonly used architecture frameworks like The Open Group Architecture Framework (TOGAF), the Unified Architecture Framework (UAF), and the BIZBOK Business Architecture Framework. The session will conclude with best practices for implementing architecture frameworks and commercial tools that support the architecture practice.
