What happens if the world's richest and most powerful men decide to dismantle democracy?

In Gilded Rage, New York Times bestselling author Jacob Silverman takes us inside the surreal, high-stakes world of Silicon Valley. This is the story of the political awakening and radicalization of a cabal of tech billionaires and their descent into ideological extremism. Flush with cash from the zero-interest era, addicted to their own mythology, these men have began reshaping the world in their image - and it should terrify us all.

At the center is Elon Musk, the mogul whose obsession with the “woke mind virus” has turned him from a tech innovator to an ideological crusader. But Musk is just the beginning. Silverman maps a sprawling network of radicalized elites - from Peter Thiel and JD Vance to the financiers bankrolling Donald Trump - who are using their platforms and their money to ensure a political revolution that's already underway.

We meet the billionaires funding life-extension labs and embracing apocalyptic visions of AI. We examine the populist rhetoric that is leading to the ruthless dismantling of democratic norms. And we enter the strange, darkly comic world of the tech-oligarchy where libertarian dreams meet authoritarian impulses, and

Only Devs #128: Strategic Software Design + Rust for Fast Queries

Event Space at Royal Oak (4th floor), Bangkok, Thailand · Only Devs Bangkok (formerly ThaiPy)
In person

We are now Only Devs Bangkok! Formerly known as ThaiPy, we recently renamed the group and broadened its focus, because the work of a developer is changing fast. These days we often work across many languages and technologies, and we want to help you keep up. #1 - Strategic Software Design: Architecting Software that Lasts \- Oleksandr Polieno (IGLU) has deep expertise in software engineering, having taken on challenges ranging from database optimization to web apps. He's going to provide insight on making decisions that are expensive to reverse - covering how much to plan up front, where to spend effort, choosing architecture, and how this same discipline extend to building with LLMs. #2 - Introduction to Differential Dataflow: Fast Queries in Rust on Changing Data - Cesar Augusto (nosotro.app) had to overcome the challenges of keeping application state up to date as new events flooded in. He'll introduce us to Differential Dataflow, data-parallel programming framework designed to efficiently process large volumes of data and to quickly respond to arbitrary changes in input collections. Only Devs is a free event for anyone that's interested in keeping up with the latest programming languages, libraries, and techniques. Everyone is welcome, beginner to advanced or just curious about tech, whatever your background. Snacks and soft drinks provided by MIT Hacking Medicine.
