Ethereum depends on work that no one has an obvious incentive to pay for: client development, research, tooling, and documentation. This talk traces how the ecosystem has tried to fund that work - from early grants to quadratic funding and retroactive rewards - and covers where those approaches have succeeded and where they’ve fallen short. It closes by highlighting the open problems the space is still working through.
