Netherlands Startups More Often Raise Only One Early Round Than UK Peers
- 59.5% of Dutch startups raised only one round versus 54.7% in UK
- 57.4% of Dutch seed-stage startups raised just one round
- UK pre-seed single-round share is 51.2%, lower than Netherlands
Across the 6,915 startups Brouky tracks whose first tracked round was at least two years ago, the Netherlands shows a higher share of startups that raised exactly one tracked round and never raised again compared to the United Kingdom. 59.5% of Dutch startups raised only one round, while the UK share stands at 54.7%.
This difference persists when isolating by early-stage rounds, though it may partly reflect expanding data coverage. At the seed stage, 57.4% of Dutch startups raised only one round, exceeding the UK seed single-round share of 51.7%. At pre-seed, the Netherlands also leads with 58.9% compared to the UK's 51.2% single-round share.
The data reflects startups tracked for at least two years, excluding younger cohorts without sufficient time to raise again. Although a second round not captured by tracking would inflate these shares, the comparison between countries remains meaningful. The Netherlands has a 4.8 percentage point higher single-round share overall compared to the UK.
