Across the Series B deal participations tracked in Germany and the Netherlands over the last three years, the Netherlands exhibits a markedly higher concentration among its top 10 investors. Specifically, these leading Dutch investors account for 19.6% of all Series B deal participations, which is more than double the 8.1% share held by Germany’s top 10 investors. This indicates a more oligopolistic investor landscape in the Netherlands compared to Germany’s more fragmented market.

Supporting this difference, Germany’s investor ecosystem is substantially larger, with 6,207 distinct investors participating in Series B rounds versus just 1,465 in the Netherlands. Despite this, the Netherlands’ top 10 investors maintain a greater grip on deal flow, suggesting a higher dominance concentration within a smaller pool.

TOP 10 INVESTOR SHARE OF SERIES B DEAL PARTICIPATIONS (%)

The most active investor in Germany is Y Combinator, while in the Netherlands it is Invest-NL, reflecting different leading players in each market. Germany also recorded a higher absolute number of total participations at 18,879 compared to 3,655 in the Netherlands, but the share concentration metric highlights the relative influence of the top investors rather than volume.
