About this event

Your Daily Driver Got an Overhaul: What's New in SSMS 21 and 22

How long have you had SSMS open right now? For most of us it's the tool we live in all day, and for years it barely changed. That's over. Think of it like a car you've driven forever that just came back from a full overhaul: new engine, new dash, and a few driver aids that weren't there before.

This session is a two-part tour. First we cover SSMS 21, the rebuild. SSMS finally went 64-bit on the Visual Studio 2022 shell, so it stops running out of memory on big scripts and huge result grids. We'll walk the rest of what landed in 21: the new Visual Studio Installer with automatic updates, dark theme, vertical tabs and tab coloring, results-grid options like NULL coloring, SQL projects, the Always Encrypted Assessment in the wizard, and the modern connection dialog as an opt-in preview. SSMS 21 also shipped the first Copilot, the Azure OpenAI one where you brought your own endpoint and keys. It was cumbersome, so we'll note it and move on.

Then we get to SSMS 22, the retune, where the good stuff lives. GitHub Copilot replaces that first attempt: you just sign in with GitHub, and chat plus completions are now generally available. We'll write, explain, and fix T-SQL by chat, then push into Agent Mode (preview), where you hand Copilot a goal and it runs queries, reads execution plans, and proposes schema changes, with your approval at every step. Around that we'll cover Schema Compare (preview), built-in T-SQL formatting (preview), the new connection dialog now defaulting to Strict encryption (TDS 8.0), Windows Arm64 support, grid zoom with Ctrl and the mouse wheel, status-bar aggregates, JSON tooling, and deeper Fabric integration.

It's all live demos and real result grids, and I'll call out the gotchas so you know what to expect before you roll it out. You'll leave knowing exactly what changed, what to install, what to turn on Monday morning, and where the sharp edges are. If you've been putting off the

Arya Health HQ, New York City, United States · MedStartr.NYC - a Healthcare Innovation Community
runs 24–25 October 2026
In person

Note: we are postponing and redesigning this event for November. This was a new event type and let's just say, it wasn't as popular as we thought it would be so, in true crowd-validator style, we are going back to the drawing board. Please contact us if you have constructive feedback. Thanks and Stay tuned! Tickets for this event are transferable to our other events or please request a refund. Alex Fair Original write up - subject to change. Presented by MedStartr in Partnership with ClawCamp You bring the vision. We'll help you launch a company — in a weekend. Healthcare is broken in a hundred ways we all see daily. You've felt it as a patient. diagnosed it as a clinician. doded around it as a builder, and hated it as a person who came into healthcare to help people. The things you see that could be better are hard to fix, and it bothers you that they seem incorrigible. But then you got an idea of something that could help, if you could just build it and get it in the hands of people like you to help patients get better care and the system and caregivers to give better care. We know, we have met thousands of you and ARE you too. That's why we have run this group for almost 18 years and done so many events. But now, with the help of AI and the new MedStartr.ai platform, we can help even more. So we created what we are calling a "Launchathon" to help with all that and this is the first one! The NYC HealthTech Launchathon is your chance to do something about it. No startup experience required. No coding background needed. Just bring your problem, your perspective, and your curiosity — and we'll bring the AI tools, expert faculty, mentors, investors, and community to help you build something real. The Program: 3 Phases, 8 Weeks 🔶 Phase I · HealthTech ClawCamp · August 1–2 \\Day 1 — August 1 \| Stack AI HQ\, One World Trade Center\\ Learn. Ideate. Validate with Experts on hand and Build or add to your team from other folks like yourself. Meet amazing people.
