About this event

We're back after a bit of a summer break, and we're trying out something new.

We're hosting a session using a facilitated watch-and-discuss format we've been building at AISAP. We watch a short video together, then work through a set of questions as a group. You'll leave having had thoughtful discussion, met a few people, and thought harder about a few questions you likely haven't contemplated before.

Format

Arrivals and greetings
Watch short video together
Facilitated discussion in small groups, then all together
Closing round and informal time after

Who this is for: anyone curious about how AI is going. If you've heard that AI also carries some pretty serious risks and are curious what that means, this is a great session for you. No technical background needed, no prior reading, no prep. Skeptics and enthusiasts both welcome. The discussion works well with varying opinions.

I look forward to seeing you there and discussing these important topics!

AI and Students: What's Actually Happening

Portland, OR, Portland, United States · AI Portland
In person

Students are already using AI. This panel conversation will tackle what's actually happening: the different ways students are using it, what it might be doing to how they think and learn, and what it means when a chatbot becomes a student's go-to when they're stressed or stuck, not just a source of homework help. Three things we'll get into: The range of ways students are actually using AI, and why one story doesn't fit them all Whether AI is changing how students think, not just what they turn in What it means when students reach for AI instead of a teacher, tutor, or someone else, when they're overwhelmed or need support This is for anyone who teaches, parents, or works with students, or just cares about where education is headed. Panelists: Seth Fleischauer, Founder & President of Banyan Global Learning, host of Make It Mindful: Insights for Global Learning Mohan Nair, author of Unreachable: How Not to Lose Your Mind in an AI-Obsessed Era More panelists to come...
