About this event

Hey, Product Friends! ✨
Welcome to Tokyo Design Community, one of the most active AI-driven and career-focused product design communities in Japan, where design meets technology, business, and the tools shaping what comes next. We're focused on AI-native practical insights, real-world experience, and learning together.

This time, we're bringing one of the most followed voices in design careers straight to you: Aneta Kmiecik, the design educator and hiring partner trusted by a community of 200K+ designers worldwide. She has reviewed thousands of portfolios and coached 1,000+ designers into their next role. Now she's joining us live to answer the question that matters most right now: What kind of portfolio actually gets you hired?

🎁 BONUS: Live Portfolio Critique with Aneta! 🎁
Anyone who submits portfolio will have the chance to get it critiqued live by Aneta during the session! ✨

Over the past year, AI has reshaped what companies expect from designers. Roles are shifting, responsibilities are expanding, and the hiring bar keeps rising. So many of us are reacting the same way: trying every new tool, vibe coding side projects, rebuilding our portfolios again and again, hoping something sticks.

But here's the truth: doing more is not the strategy.
Building aimlessly costs you time and energy, and it often leaves you with a portfolio that looks like everyone else's. The designers getting hired today aren't the ones who do everything. They're the ones who know what the market needs and focus on exactly that.

Are you:
💡 Spending hours on new AI tools and side projects but still not getting interviews?
💡 Getting rejected after portfolio reviews with zero feedback?
💡 Unsure which skills and projects are actually worth your effort right now?

You might be wondering

  • What do hiring teams and founders really look at in the first few seconds?
  • Which AI skills are becoming baseline, and which ones will set you apart?
  • What should I stop doing, and where should I double

[In-Person] Portfolio Workshop: Get Hired In the Age of AI

Le Wagon Tokyo - Coding & AI Bootcamp, Meguro City, Japan · Tokyo Design: Your Best UX Career Buddy in Japan
In person

Hey, Product Friends! ✨ Welcome to Tokyo Design Community, we are the leading AI-driven product design communities in Japan. We're focused on AI-native practical insights, real-world experience, job-hunting in Japan, career advancement and learning together. This session, we're tackling two questions every designer quietly wonders about: what does growth really look like today, and how do you actually get hired? We'll wrap up with a hands-on portfolio workshop where you can work on your own portfolio, case study, or resume with the credit sponsors from Lovable and Tapnow. For a long time, the path seemed clear: master the craft, earn the next title. At the same time, the hiring bar has never been higher. Teams expect broader skill sets, and building a portfolio that stands out is a challenge of its own. You're practicing with AI and shipping with vibe coding tools, but is that enough to land the job you want? That's why we're inviting speakers from different backgrounds to share their insights and insider tips: a designer who has grown across disciplines, and a former UX designer turned recruiter who now sees the hiring side up clos You might be wondering: Should I go deeper in my specialty or broaden my skill set? How do I know which sideways move is the right one for me? How do recruiters read a designer's background, especially a non-linear one? What makes a candidate stand out in today's AI-era job market? Event Highlights: 🌱 Grow Sideways, Stay Rooted: Vincent's journey from graphic design and editorial to branding, then product and experience, and why depth matters as much as range 🔍 The Hiring Side: Insider insights on job-hunting from a former UX designer turned recruiter 💬 Q&A 💜 Portfolio Critique & workshop with FREE credits from Lovable and Tapnow hands-on working session on your case study/ portfolio website/ resume etc. 🙌 Optional networking session 🎙️Featured Speakers: Vincent Wijaya Vincent is a Design Director (Product & Experience) at VM

SivanS株式会社, Shibuya, Japan
In person

日本語は下↓ Vol.2|Co-create — Build business ideas across borders From talking about ideas to building businesses together across borders. The second edition of Go Global Hub 2026 is Build Together – Cross-border Co-Creation Workshop. Date: Monday, October 26th, 2026 at 18:30 (doors open at 18:00) Venue: Sivan's Lab Language: English (with Japanese support) Capacity: 70 - 100 participants Price: Free Overview International and Japanese startups, entrepreneurs, corporations, investors, and other ecosystem players will form mixed teams and work together to turn business challenges and themes into concrete new business ideas. This is open to everyone — whether you're already building your own new business and want to stress-test and sharpen it with cross-border perspectives, or you'd rather start from scratch with a theme and shape a brand-new idea together with your team. Either way, you'll be working through the same core questions: Who is the customer? What problem are we solving? What value can we provide? How can the idea become a sustainable business? What partners do we need to make it happen? Using frameworks such as the Business Model Canvas and Lean Canvas, participants will combine their experience, expertise, and different cultural and market perspectives to develop ideas — whether brought in or built on the spot — into potential business models. At the end of the workshop, each team will deliver a 3-minute mini pitch. The goal is not to create a perfect business plan. What matters is the experience of building something together with people you would not normally have the opportunity to work with. The ideas and connections created during the session can become the starting point for future business development, partnerships, PoCs, and international expansion. Speaker Catherine Li - Co-Founder, Felo AI | Global Strategy | Startup Investment Haruka Aoyama (Catherine Li) brings more than 20 years of experience in international finance, startup investment, busines

Laser Chess and the Consequences of Deterministic Games

Build+ (Build Plus株式会社), Shibuya, Japan
In person

English / 日本語は下に↓ Tokyo Tech Talks #9, "Laser Chess and the Consequences of Deterministic Games," is coming up on Tuesday, October 27. In Laser Chess, there are no dice and no hidden cards. Every piece is on the board, every move is visible, and the laser always follows the same path through the same mirrors. If nothing is left to chance, what is actually left to play for? On October 27, Ai, a mathematics and engineering student at the University of Pittsburgh, will use Laser Chess as a starting point to explore what it means for a game to be deterministic, and what follows once every outcome is fixed by the rules and the moves. No game theory background required. Just bring your curiosity, and stay for drinks and conversation afterward. Tokyo Tech Talks #9「Laser Chess and the Consequences of Deterministic Games」は、10月27日(火)に開催します。
