Data exploration of Pixar films: Which one is the best?

AUG11
19:00 · America / New York
  • This event presents a data exploration analysis of Pixar films to determine which one ranks as the best.
  • It is suitable for data enthusiasts and film fans interested in quantitative comparisons of popular movies.
  • Attendees can discover insights by examining data related to Pixar's movies in New York City.

About this event

External registration required at nyhackr.

This month we have the long awaited Pixar talk from Eric Leung.

Thank you to NYU for hosting us.

Everybody attending must RSVP through the registration form at nyhackr. There is a charge for in-person and virtual tickets are free.

Space is extremely limited and in-person registration closes at 3 PM the day of the talk.

About the Talk:
Pixar makes beloved films, like Toy Story, Cars, and Inside Out. But which one is the best? Which franchise is the best? In this light-hearted but informative talk, Eric will go over an R data package he's created called {pixarfilms}. Eric will share some of his insights in answering some basic and not-so-basic questions he's had about Pixar films. For example, how have they done in the box office, and how they rank across critics on the internet and media. This latter ranking is done by consensus, where I'll aggregate rankings across different sources to come up with a data-backed, consensus ranking of Pixar films. The talk will also briefly highlight data challenges in curating the data and also highlight other data that can be found in the R package.

About Eric:
Eric is a senior data scientist and "small-batch data architect", where they have spent years measuring marketing effectiveness for iconic media brands including ESPN and ABC. Currently deepening their expertise in statistical programming, Eric is actively applying Bayesian methods and causal inference to both large-scale business problems and artisanal curation projects, such as structuring data for the Brooklyn Botanic Gardens and building a comprehensive Pixar film database. They are an active member in the New York data community and draws on a former work life as a computational biologist to contribute to open-source data and web development communities.

The venue doors open at 6:30 PM America/NewYork where we will continue enjoying pizza together (we encourage the virtual audience to have pizza as well). The talk, and l

NYC HealthTech Launchathon and ClawCamp

Arya Health HQ, New York City, United States · MedStartr.NYC - a Healthcare Innovation Community
runs 24–25 October 2026
In person

Note: we are postponing and redesigning this event for November. This was a new event type and let's just say, it wasn't as popular as we thought it would be so, in true crowd-validator style, we are going back to the drawing board. Please contact us if you have constructive feedback. Thanks and Stay tuned! Tickets for this event are transferable to our other events or please request a refund. Alex Fair Original write up - subject to change. Presented by MedStartr in Partnership with ClawCamp You bring the vision. We'll help you launch a company — in a weekend. Healthcare is broken in a hundred ways we all see daily. You've felt it as a patient. diagnosed it as a clinician. doded around it as a builder, and hated it as a person who came into healthcare to help people. The things you see that could be better are hard to fix, and it bothers you that they seem incorrigible. But then you got an idea of something that could help, if you could just build it and get it in the hands of people like you to help patients get better care and the system and caregivers to give better care. We know, we have met thousands of you and ARE you too. That's why we have run this group for almost 18 years and done so many events. But now, with the help of AI and the new MedStartr.ai platform, we can help even more. So we created what we are calling a "Launchathon" to help with all that and this is the first one! The NYC HealthTech Launchathon is your chance to do something about it. No startup experience required. No coding background needed. Just bring your problem, your perspective, and your curiosity — and we'll bring the AI tools, expert faculty, mentors, investors, and community to help you build something real. The Program: 3 Phases, 8 Weeks 🔶 Phase I · HealthTech ClawCamp · August 1–2 \\Day 1 — August 1 \| Stack AI HQ\, One World Trade Center\\ Learn. Ideate. Validate with Experts on hand and Build or add to your team from other folks like yourself. Meet amazing people.

Day of the Bats: Welcoming Bat Conservation International to DSI

SVA MFA Design for Social Innovation, New York City, United States
In person

Day of the Bats:
Welcoming Bat Conservation International to DSI, A Celebration of Bats, Blooms, and Día de los Muertos Date: Tuesday, October 27, 2026 Time: 3:30 to 6:00 pm ET Location: MFA DSI Studio, 136 W 21 Street, 5th Floor Every year, bats travel north along a trail of agave, a corridor of blooming plants that feeds them, and us, along the way. That corridor is disappearing. Bats and agave both take their time, an agave flowers once in its life, and a bat has one pup a year. Restoring this landscape means working at the pace of the living things in it. The School of Visual Arts MFA Design for Social Innovation Program (MFA DSI) welcomes Dr. Kristen Lear, bat scientist and Director of Bat Conservation International's Agave Restoration Initiative, to our studio. Her bi-national work across the U.S. Southwest and Mexico restores habitat for threatened pollinating bats while strengthening the rural livelihoods that depend on the same land. Day of the Bats arrives during Bat Week and Bat Celebration Month, and alongside Día de los Muertos, when people offer alebrijes at the altar. Come in at 3:30 pm, wander the studio, and make an alebrije-inspired bat of your own. At 4:00 pm, settle in for Kristen's talk on restoring the nectar corridor and what "scaling" can mean when growth is slow. Welcome into the world of the Bats!
