Breaking Through the Blood-Brain Barrier

SEP22
17:00 · Europe / Stockholm

About this event

Alzheimer's, Parkinson's and ALS are some of the hardest diseases in medicine to treat, mainly because the brain is one of the hardest places in the body to reach with a drug.
Almost every antibody is stopped at the blood-brain barrier. So how do you get a treatment in at all?
BioArctic found a way. They're the Swedish biotech company behind one of the world's first drugs proven to slow Alzheimer's rather than just ease the symptoms. They've also built a technology called BrainTransporter that carries antibodies past the barrier.
Two of their researchers, Susanne Fabre and Ken Honek, are coming to KTH to show us how it works. They'll also cover what goes wrong in the brain in the first place.
We end the evening on the other side of the problem, what you can do to lower your risk of developing dementia.
Free poké bowls provided by BioArctic. Limited spots, so grab your ticket.
