Technology and the climate crisis – what can we do in Barcelona?

Thoughtworks España S.L, Barcelona, Spain
In person

Is technology going to save us or destroy us? Too often, current debates seem to offer only two choices: either AI is the final nail in the coffin, to be avoided at all costs; or tech will evolve to cure all diseases and solve the climate crisis. In this discussion, four speakers with diverse backgrounds – a mobile app product manager and community organiser, a climate communications specialist turned software developer, a multi-media art educator, and a chemist and circular economist – walk into a bar (or a Climate Week Event) and argue that it's not that simple. The environmental impacts of digital technology are wide-ranging: from the direct energy it uses and the emissions it enables, to the ways of thinking and working it encourages, and beyond. Understanding these impacts starts with looking at the challenges and trade-offs beyond the headlines. Digital technology, especially AI, amplifies both risks and opportunities. At the same time, building our own tools and software has never been easier. Barcelona, with its large tech sector and thriving civic movements for climate action, care, protest and community, is the perfect place to ask: what can we do as individuals, communities, workers and citizens to steer technological development towards more of the good and less of the bad? --- By registering for this event, you agree to share your registration information with the organizers of BCN Climate Week.

People Planet Pint™: Sustainability Meetup

Parc dels Til·lers, Barcelona, Spain
In person

A better future is possible today, and it starts at your local pub! [English below] ¿Te interesa la sostenibilidad? Las primeras 10 personas tienen bebida gratis, cortesía de nuestro sponsor :) // Do you wish trains were cheaper, there were more trees on your street, and more solar panels over local car parks? Are you frustrated that with increasingly wild weather people are still paving over nature, and you’re left feeling like the only one who cares in your friends WhatsApp group? You're not alone! You've just been in the wrong room. People Planet Pint is your local sustainability meetup - no pitches, no presentations, no panels. Just like-minded people talking about the planet over a pint (or two). You don't need to be a sustainability professional. You don't need to know what "Scope 3" means (most people don't!). If you’re curious about what’s going on locally and feel that a better future is possible - come along to meet others like you and chat about what’s going on locally, how to get involved and what solutions are out there. Come for conversations with real people - it’s a space to swap ideas, find opportunities, get things off your chest or j

[Registro externo] — AI in Real Codebases

InnoIT Consulting, Barcelona, Spain
In person

FREE SIGN-UP 👉 https://luma.com/claudec At InnoIT Consulting, we are delighted to invite you to our upcoming event, organized in collaboration with Claude Code Barcelona, on Wednesday, October 21. Magdalena Ruyú (Business Analytics Consultant, InnoIT Consulting) Johnny Fekete (Software Engineer, Reddit) ## Featuring 2 talks 🎙️Code in Days, Decisions in Weeks: Coordinating Data and Business When AI Accelerates Delivery, Magdalena Ruyú AI has collapsed development timelines: what used to take weeks now takes days. But strategic decisions—what to build, where to pivot, what to prioritize—still take weeks, if not months. That mismatch in pace is the new organizational bottleneck, and it exposes silos that longer timelines used to keep hidden: technical teams that deliver quickly but in the wrong direction, business teams that pivot without fully grasping the rework involved, and a bridge between both worlds that can no longer operate through planning cycles. This talk explores how the relationship between Development and Business changes when delivery is no longer the problem, and what needs to happen so that coordination doesn’t become the constraint. 🎙️ Context Is a Team Sport: Claude Code in Large, Existing Codebases, Johnny Fekete Claude Code works great on a fresh side project. But what about a codebase with years of history and dozens of engineers, each with their own AI setup? In this talk, I show how a large team can share AI context in the repo: a shared layer for everyone, skills for repeated tasks, and a personal layer that stays yours. Then we go one step further: when the agent keeps making the same codebase-specific mistake, the fix becomes a new rule, reviewed by the team like any other code. With time for a dynamic Q&A session and, of course, our networking with food 🍕 and drinks 🍻. 👥 Do you want to come along? Share this invitation with all your contacts. FREE SIGN-UP 👉 https://luma.com/claudec WHEN: Wednesday, October 21 WHE
