South-East Asian aquaculture sector is expanding quickly, and we clearly see a need for the emergence of alternatives to fishmeal for farmed fish nutrition. Indeed, we believe that aquaculture cannot develop at the expense of the wild fish stocks and populations relying on them to survive. Moreover, fish meal costs are soaring. Developing local and sustainable alternatives is hence necessary. That’s why we decided to launch the Alternative Proteins in Aquaculture Innovation Summit to gather professionals from diverse backgrounds and accelerate the emergence of solutions.
This event is co-organised by the Faculty of Science from Universiti Malaya (Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia) and Mandible Agritech, a tech start-up dedicated to sustainable aquaculture. It will take place at UM on the 8-9 September 2026.
The event lasts two full days. It includes oral presentations made by invited speakers and sponsors of the event, one panel discussion, one workshop session, and a half-day experimental farm visit. Several networking sessions are also included.
The summit’s main target audience includes fish farming specialists, aquafeed manufacturers, researchers, government officials, and producers of alternative proteins (for instance insects, yeasts or microalgae).
