Join All Tech Is Human's founder, David Ryan Polgar, for a fireside chat with Center for Humane Technology's Camille Carlton about what it means to be human in the age of AI.
We're told AI will give us everything we want, instantly and effortlessly — the perfect playlist, the ideal trip, the answer to any question. But a decade of algorithmic recommendation systems already showed us what happens when a handful of platforms decide what culture we see: our tastes narrow, our choices converge, and the same songs, restaurants, and aesthetics rise to the top everywhere.
What's less visible is why. To build a system that can predict and automate what we want, AI companies need something from us first: the intangible, hard-to-quantify parts of being human — our words, our habits, our relationships, our inner lives — turned into data, and data into product. This is the monetization of the human experience, and it's the engine behind the frictionless world being sold to us.
The more of ourselves we hand over, the more "effortless" the system gets and the less room is left for the friction that actually makes us who we are.
